of family business were removed from the final sample, reducing the sample size to 186
(response rate of 93%).
The tables below show some of the demographic information about the sample. This
sample, while having a relatively small family business level sample size, does provide a
wide range of diversity in industry, family and generation of ownership, number of
employees as well as in annual revenue. The average number of employee of each company
is 52 ranged from 5 to 482 members while the average firm age is 23 years ranged from 1
year to 71 years. The feature of the research samples are computed and shown in the tables
below (from Table 1 to Table 2). They are classified by (1) number of employee and (2)
operating income of the year in 2011.
