Abstract
The Fiber Distributed Data Interface (FDDI) is a fiber-optic based tokenring architecture with a throughput of 100Mbits/s. Network Management System (NMS) is the system which manages and controls the communication resources, and the FDDI NMS is based on FDDI ring. Along with the growth of FDDI devices has come the recognition of FDDI NMS as an important aspect of computer networking. In this paper, we developed and described an FDDI NMS for assisting the network operator and analyst in understanding and controlling FDDI ring and its subnets. The FDDI NMS provides an integrated set of tools for real-time monitoring, control, and analysis of FDDI consisting of Ethernets. It also provides mechanism for network security management which protects the NMS from unauthorized use.
