Abstract
Conducting overseas R&D activities has become a popular trend since 1980s so that MNEs can effectively and world widely utilize technological resource. Therefore, the strategy and management of multinational R&D had become an emerging important research topic. From host country perspective, this study addresses the MNEs overseas R&D activities in terms of behavioral factors in Taiwan that include the motive of R&D investment, R&D organizational type and so on. The major findings reported suggest that the strategic importance of the Taiwanese market is the dominant reason for MNEs to establish overseas R&D units in Taiwan. From these findings some policy suggestions are offered, and implications for future research are described.
